Weather: The Bay Islands experience definite seasons. The spring temperature range in the 80's and by June the temperature can reach up to 90 degrees. Light rain showers and the ever-present trade winds help keep the temperatures pleasant. Most tropical storms miss the Bay Islands because of their location, with the average of one major hurricane every 17 years.
Brief History: Christopher Columbus discovered the Bay Islands in 1502 while on his fourth voyage of the world. At this time, the islands were occupied by the Paya Indians. During the next century, these fertile islands were used to provision Spanish galleons.

Getting There: You can get a direct flight to Roatan from New Orleans, on Fridays, Houston on Saturdays, Miami on Sundays. Newark, NJ has just been added to the list of direct flights; with more soon to follow. American, Continental, Delta, and TACA airlines offer daily services to Roatan through San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa located on the main land of Honduras.
